Internet Service Providers
To connect your computer to a phone line, you must have a modem. To connect to the Internet you must be able to use the modem to dial up an Internet Service Provider, or ISP. There are many companies offering this service, with most local providers charging about $20 a month.
Be certain the ISP you select offers you unlimited access for their monthly fee, 24 hour a day help and a toll free call. Most give you 2-10 Megabytes of storage, a free Web page and an e-mail account as part of their monthly package. AOL too offers Internet access for $19.95, but users find it difficult to connect with some schools, servers or pages from AOL. Also AOL often has difficulty sending and receiving mid to large attachments (anything over 500K).
In sum: Check carefully with any prospective ISP to be certain that their service will satisfy your Internet needs.
